A mandate by the <a title=\"Will Accountable Care Organizations Pave the Way for Change?\" href=\"https:\/\/www.medicalbillingstar.com\/blog\/will-accountable-care-organizations-pave-the-way-for-change\/\" target=\"_blank\">Affordable Care act<\/a> has announced that Medicaid rates for certain primary care procedures will be paid on par with Medicare rates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0To receive additional reimbursement physicians will have to fill out, a, state specific Medicaid self-attestation form.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicalbillingstar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Medicare.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-645\" src=\"https:\/\/www.medicalbillingstar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Medicare-409x1024.png\" alt=\"Medicare\" width=\"409\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.medicalbillingstar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Medicare-409x1024.png 409w, https:\/\/www.medicalbillingstar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Medicare-120x300.png 120w, https:\/\/www.medicalbillingstar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Medicare-140x350.png 140w, https:\/\/www.medicalbillingstar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Medicare.png 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 409px) 100vw, 409px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><b>Who are covered ?<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Family practices,\u00a0pediatricians\u00a0and general internal medicine physicians are eligible for increased reimbursement. So are several other sub-specialties and physicians who perform high levels of primary care services. <strong>The major criteria are that, physicians should be board certified and have a billing history that indicates that about 60% of their billing is for primary care codes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The rate increase will be in effect till the end of 2014. Physicians,\u00a0who&#8217;ve\u00a0registered through MITS and are approved by the Office of Medical Assistance, can see more digits in their pay check from April 2013.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><b>The code to more dollars !<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Primary care physicians will be reimbursed in accordance to HCPCS codes related to primary care. Evaluation and management codes from 99201 through 99499 are eligible, as are certain vaccine administration codes.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><b>The rough and tumble of practicing primary care\u2026 <\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Primary care physicians are working under heavy financial pressure. The sequestration cuts of 2013 have taken a heavy toll on medical practices. The sustainable growth rate formula has quickly turned in to a nightmare for physicians.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0Reimbursement cuts, operational pressures and complicated regulations scared the daylights out of physicians.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Quite arguably it was primary care practices that were the hardest hit. Primary care\u00a0centers\u00a0were soon shutting their doors as it became increasingly difficult to practice.
